A joyful collaboration brought faith learning to life as St. Peter High School religion students visited a Grade 2/3 classroom at St. Francis of Assisi School to lead activities on the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Inspired by their own secondary religion project, the students designed age-appropriate lessons and chose to share them with younger learners.
Hands-On Stations that Engaged
Working in pairs, the high school students led a variety of interactive stations featuring crafts, online games, and mini-lessons rooted in Catholic teaching. The younger students created, played, and reflected, while the older students put planning, leadership, and mentorship into practice. The classroom buzzed with energy and joy as faith took shape through creativity and collaboration.
How the Partnership Came Together
The partnership began when a St. Peter religion teacher reached out to explore opportunities for collaboration. With support from the St. Francis of Assisi principal, the visit became a hands-on option for the religion class project. Students were invited to design lessons either for their high school peers or for younger students. Choosing the latter, the teens crafted a morning of faith-based learning that was both engaging and memorable.
Faith at the Heart of Learning
The workshop reflected the OCSB’s approach to faith: placing it at the centre of education, integrating it into daily learning, and nurturing character through Catholic values. It modelled how faith learning can be inclusive, creative, and rooted in service. Students grew academically and spiritually while learning to share the gifts of the Holy Spirit with others.
Building Community Through Mentorship
Moments like these demonstrated faith in action. Younger students encountered the teachings of the Church through joyful, accessible activities, while older students deepened their understanding by teaching and mentoring others. Together, they embodied what it means to live the OCSB’s Spiritual Theme: Open Doors, Build Bridges, Nourish New Beginnings.
