Joy and Generosity: Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s Baby Jesus Lunch

Staff and families at the Baby Jesus Lunch

The holiday season at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School was filled with joy, highlighted by the annual Baby Jesus Lunch, which celebrated kindness, community, and collaboration. The event reflected the Ottawa Catholic School Board’s Spiritual Theme, Open Doors, Build Bridges, Nourish New Beginnings. By emphasizing “Open Doors,” the lunch showed how generosity and teamwork could foster connection and shared joy.

A Meal That Nourished More Than Stomachs

Each year, the school welcomed community partners and local heroes for a celebration centred on the delivery of hundreds of turkey dinners, donated by Reynolds Restaurant and delivered by the Ottawa Police Service. This collaboration turned a simple meal into a symbol of community spirit and gratitude.

This event is not just about turkey and trimmings, said teacher and organizer Amanda Parent. It’s about teaching students the importance of community and caring for one another. It serves as a lesson in service and connection.

A Warm Welcome for Community Heroes

The gymnasium filled with excitement as Ottawa Police officers arrived carrying meals to distribute. Their efforts were met with applause and smiles from students in festive attire. The officers’ time and energy reflected the spirit of service, leaving a lasting impression on students and staff. Reynolds Restaurant played a key role by donating the turkeys, ensuring the continuation of this valued tradition. Their generosity demonstrated how local businesses can give back and strengthen their communities.

Building Bridges Through Generosity

The Baby Jesus Lunch highlighted the power of collaboration. By bringing together the school, first responders, and local businesses, the event created a ripple effect of kindness that reached far beyond the gymnasium. Every stage of the day, from planning to cleanup, reflected the school’s commitment to connection and community care.

A Season of Hope and Giving

At its heart, the Baby Jesus Lunch was a reminder of the true spirit of the holidays. It was not only a meal but an opportunity to reflect on the importance of service, relationships, and shared joy.

Carrying the Spirit Forward

As students, staff, and community partners left the gym, they carried forward the inspiration to continue opening doors for others. The Baby Jesus Lunch celebrated generosity in action and reminded everyone that small acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.
