The spirit of giving is alive and well at St. Brother André School. Through the school’s “Giving Back to Our Community” initiative, students, families, and staff are coming together in a heartwarming act of service that beautifully reflects the meaning of Advent.
St. Brother André’s goal is to foster a sense of community and inclusion during the holiday season. As they celebrate the birth of Jesus, they strive to ensure that everyone feels welcomed and part of the school family. In a simple but meaningful way, the Birthday Celebration Kits project brings joy and hope to others by providing families with the non-perishable ingredients to make a cake and share in celebration—encouraging togetherness, gratitude, and faith.
The project began with each homeroom being assigned a specific item to donate to assemble complete Birthday Celebration Kits. These kits are thoughtfully designed to bring happiness to those in need by providing all the essentials for a meaningful celebration. From candles to cake mix, each kit is filled with items that help ensure every recipient can experience the joy of a special day, regardless of circumstance.
Each kit includes a unique yet straightforward treat: a can of soda and a box of cake mix. While it might sound like an unexpected pairing, it’s a quick and easy way to make a delicious cake with just two ingredients. The cake mix contains the necessary dry ingredients, including a rising agent, and when the soda is added, it activates those ingredients to create a light, fluffy result. This two-ingredient recipe is also egg-free, making it suitable for families with allergies or those seeking a plant-based dessert option.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of St. Brother André’s students and families, the school community put together 80 Birthday Celebration Kits. This remarkable effort reflects their compassion and commitment to making a difference. These kits were donated to local organizations, including The Gloucester Food Cupboard, St. Mary Home, and Annunciation of the Lord Parish, where they bring joy to families and individuals in need.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the families and staff whose generous contributions made this project successful. Their kindness beautifully embodies the values that guide St. Brother André School: compassion, community, and the spirit of giving.
This initiative reminds us of the true meaning of the season: the gifts of love, joy, and hope. By giving back to the community, the St. Brother André family continues to share these gifts in big and small ways, lighting the way for others through faith and kindness.
