Hope in Action: St. Cecilia’s Lent Initiative

Casting Hope Scenario

The St. Cecilia School community embraced the Spiritual Theme, Open Doors, Build Bridges, Nourish New Beginnings, and put it into action through an inspiring Lenten initiative. Students “cast hope” through a creative fundraising project that made a tangible difference for families in Honduras and South Sudan.

Reeling in the Love

Through School Cash Online, the St. Cecilia community was invited to “Share What They Can Spare” in support of the cause. Funds raised provided families with fishing kits and training to strengthen food security and create sustainable income.

A Fin‑tastic Fishing Race

In a spirit of friendly competition, all classes took part in a “fin‑tastic fishing race.” Students were grouped into teams named Hope, Dreams, Faith, Future, Change, Health, and Opportunity. Each team worked toward raising the most funds. While the top team earned a small reward, the greatest achievement was the meaningful impact their efforts created for families around the world.

A Kickoff to Remember

The initiative began with a school‑wide assembly featuring student presentations and a musical performance. Two Grade 6 students played live accompaniment to a reimagined version of a well‑known song, setting a tone of generosity and creativity that carried through the entire campaign.

Casting Hope, Reeling in Change

The project reflected the OCSB’s Strategic Commitments to Be Community, Be Well, and Be Innovative. It encouraged Deep Learning and empowered students to apply their faith and learning to real‑world change.
